How do I check registration and my name on the electoral roll?
Check the electoral roll itself. An identity card and an entry on the roll are not the same thing.
Do not wait until polling day to discover whether your name is on the relevant electoral roll. In its official voter guidance, the Election Commission distinguishes identification from enrolment: possessing an EPIC voter card does not replace inclusion on the roll. 1
Start from the official election service
Use the Election Commission's voter service portal or your state's official Chief Electoral Officer website. Follow the currently available electoral-roll search or voter-service link. Portal layouts can change; a saved screenshot of an old search result is not a fresh check.
Check the entry against your identity and location. Record the constituency and any part, serial or polling-station details provided. Do not publish your full voter record, address or identity documents on social media just to show that you checked.
A search failure needs investigation
“No result” does not, by itself, explain why you could not find an entry. Check the details entered and the relevant location, then use the official assistance or Electoral Registration Officer route offered by the election service.
Keep a record of any application or correction request and check its status. Submitting a form is not the same as confirming that the requested change has appeared in the roll.
Registration and polling instructions are separate
Use the current official instructions for a new registration, a correction or a change of residence. This page deliberately does not reproduce a permanent checklist of documents, deadlines or polling-day alternatives: those should be checked for the actual election and applicable process.
The cited Election Commission notice concerns specified elections in 2025. Its general distinction between roll inclusion and identification is useful here; its election-specific list of alternative identity documents is not being presented as the rule for every election in 2026. 1
Be careful with forwarded “official” links
A message may imitate election branding while sending you to an unrelated site. Open the official service independently rather than entering identity information through a forwarded form. Do not pay an unknown intermediary or share an OTP merely because a message claims your registration is at risk.
